As always, there’s more to the story

It is getting a little tiring watching all the mainstream media drinking each other’s bathwater on the story of the poor teen 19 yr. old “student,” Awish Aslam, turfed from a Tory election rally in Guelph. A google search of her name reveals more than 30 pages of stories written about her and the incident in the past five days. Dish up the pablum and a pliant media lap it up.

But clicking a couple of more pages reveal this link. It might look like a bunch of gobbledy-gook but it is actually HTML script of an email written on Dec. 2, 2008.

When you look at the script in an HTML viewer, you can see the entire email. Here it is. I enlisted the support of Pierre Bourque of Bourque.com fame to help me identify the people the email was sent to and as I thought, they are mostly all NDP MPs, party staff or other insiders. You will notice the supposed “victim” of Harper’s “goons” as some media and Michael Ignatieff have taken to calling the RCMP who were doing security for the Prime Minister, is one of the recipients.

The email refers the reader to Bourque’s website and a poll he was running. Well, on that date, Bourque tells me he ran two polls. This one and this one.

You will notice the polls were all about what was going on in Ottawa on that day which, of course all about the coalition the opposition were trying to form to usurp the government.

So, it would certainly appear that the poor 19 yr. old second year poli-sci student is really an NDP insider. This whole thing smells like a set up and the mainstream media have been played like a fiddle by the NDP.

But, of course, there could be something I’m missing.

    • Here is an interesting fact to mull over….

When my kids were in grades 10, 11 and 12 in 2008 All the Social Studies classes were following the election and the students were encouraged to seek information from all the parties…Do you think it’s possible that Miss Aslam may have been a high school student that was encouraged to put her email on lists for information from each party?
My daughter tells me that some groups of students were assigned a specific party to follow throughout the election. Many of them put their names on the emails lists of parties in order to garner information directly from the source.

Seriously, people are really reading WAAYYY to much into her name possibly being on an email list!

I think some people are just getting way too paranoid!

    • I don’t think it should matter if she were a card carrying member of the NDP or any other party. Really, isn’t a rally a place to go to learn more? To listen, to decide? Are you truly only permitted entry into the conservative church if you are already a convert? So what if she HAD an affiliation with another party. Perhaps you could look at the option that, especially at her age, she is still looking.

    • Stephen Harper: the choice of idiots.

Anyone who votes conservatard deserves a PUTZlitzer. Here’s what their votes will support by preserving the current Harper Regime:

      IN AND OUT SCHEME
Four senior Conservatives (incl. two senators) charged with breaking spending limit laws in the 2006 campaign that brought the Tories to power. (Harper was elected on promises of transparency and accountability.)

      DOCUMENT-ALTERING SCANDAL
Minister Bev Oda doctors a document, denies a legitimate group funding for no reason, lies about what happened multiple times before Parliament

      (LACK OF) INTEGRITY SCANDAL
Christiane Ouimet, so-called integrity commissioner, received 228 whistleblowing complaints didn’t uphold a single one. She was paid $500,000 in severance to not talk about her role.

      ILLEGAL USE OF GOVERNMENT LETTERHEAD
Immigration Minister Jason Kenney used ministerial letterhead to raise money for the Conservative Party

      CONTEMPT OF PARLIAMENT
Harper Conservatives wouldn’t disclose basic information on the cost of crime bills and the F-35 purchase …. LOTS OF LYING spread over days and weeks and months on these issues

PROROGATION (TWICE!), including once to pointedly refuse to observe basic Parliamentary rights and obligations: by shuttering Parliament Harper was allowed to continue to withold information on the transfer and torture of Afghan detainees which could implicate Harper and/or his staffers in violation of the Geneva Conventions!!
As a result, Harper is under investigation by the International Criminal Court!

      THE “HARPER GOVERNMENT”
It’s not the “Government of Canada” any longer. Need I say more?

      CRTC APPOINTMENT SCANDAL
Harper appointed Tom Pentefountas as vice-chairman of the CRTC in a partisan takeover bid. His qualifications? close friendship with Harper’s Director of Communications and ZERO EXPERIENCE IN TELECOM!!! Wow!

      ILLEGAL INFORMATION RELEASE
Conservatives illegally released and circulated the medical & psychiatric records of whistleblower Sean Bruyea in an obvious attempt to discredit him. NO-ONE WAS PUNISHED EXCEPT FOR 3-DAY SUSPENSIONS *WITH PAY*

      ongoing ACCESS TO INFORMATION issues
Harper Conservatives illegally edit, delay, and deny legitimate Access to Information requests

      CENSUS SCANDAL
Despite anger from many typical supporters, Harper cancelled the mandatory long form census, denying Canadian groups and agencies a wealth of necessary information in a move symptomatic of ongoing Conservative suppression of research containing data countering their ideology.

GROUNDLESS EJECTION OF CONSERVATIVE RALLY ATTENDEES

      QUESTIONABLE ASSOCATIONS & ETHICS ISSUES:
      – Bruce Carson, former Harper aide and “point man on Canada’s mission in Afghanistan,” had five fraud convictions Harper claims he did not know about. Carson now in trouble for illegal lobbying and influence-peddling
      – businessman & Conservative associate Snover Dhillon, accused of credit card fraud, still in Harper photo-ops

      ummmmm

      • you forgot Wafergate, Guergisgate, Bathroomgate, Facebookgate, the fact that the “Harper Government” is referred to at least 2 dozen times in the LIBERAL REDBOOK (version 2). If I think of any more faux scandals to add to your list, I’ll get back to you.

        April 8, 2011 at 5:03 pm

      • IN AND OUT SCHEME: I’d rather have people who can act and make decisions independently; its not like they all were part of it.

DOCUMENT-ALTERING SCANDAL: Hardly a scandal. It was up to Ms. Oda to approve or deny, and she chose to deny. Obviously she was under pressure to approve it, and we don’t know why, but she apparently didn’t want someone in power to know it was her. And, I agree with her denying funds to those groups.

INTEGRITY SCANDAL: We really won’t know all the circumstances around this; its just blown out of proportion. I remember in elementary school, one kid would get bullied and defend himself, and the bullies friends would all say it was the other kid’s fault… 228 “complaints”? Waaaah.

ILLEGAL USE OF GOVERNMENT LETTERHEAD: To err is human.

CONTEMPT OF PARLIAMENT: What a load of garbage. Just because the other parties disagreed with the PC’s. Disagree with me, and I’ll hold you in contempt! 😛

PROROGATION: (twice? oh noes!) And how many times did the Liberals prorogue before the holidays? More than twice, I’m pretty sure!

THE “HARPER GOVERNMENT”: The government is split; government gets nothing done because they bicker and insult and throw tantrums. The Harper Government relates to the side of government that is actually trying to get stuff done, and not oppose everything just because they are the opposition. They oppose everything so that it can look like the PC’s got nothing done. The truth is the Liberals voted against everything, even when they weren’t acting in the interests of their constituents, just for the sake of opposition.

CRTC APPOINTMENT SCANDAL: Hardly a scandal. Ever watch TV? There you go, you have experience. CRTC, lets see what kind of work they do… “This segment isn’t Liberal enough.” “This isn’t anti-american enough.”

ILLEGAL INFORMATION RELEASE: Yet another independent action blamed on the entire party. Lets take that logic back to the Liberals, and every time one of their MP’s do something, we can deduce it was ALL the liberals who did it.

ACCESS TO INFORMATION: Some information is sensitive, how can you argue about that? You believe we should be publishing on the internet all the mission data going on in the world so that our enemies know what we’re doing?

CENSUS SCANDAL: Mandatory long-form census isn’t accurate. Garbage in, garbage out. People put whatever because they don’t care or because they feel its none of the governments business. Race? Other. Religion? Other. Sex? Lots. Go away.

EJECTION OF CONSERVATIVE RALLY ATTENDEES: Obviously NDP insiders; that email list showed assistants, MP’s, government employees, … and a few students? “Poll to distribute,” obviously is meant to get these people to activate their little armies to flood the polls, much like we see on news websites and when comments are written to have an overwhelming “Like” (or dislike) of whatever comment was made, in the vain hope that it may sway the rest of us into thinking “Hmm, this must be what the majority thinks, so should think that way too.”

        April 8, 2011 at 5:23 pm

      • Two points only, because that’s all this rubbish is worth.

        1. You talk about blaming the entire party for Harper’s misdeeds. THAT IS ABSOLUTELY WRONG. It is ALL directly accountable to Harper. The PMO controls every single message, every blink in the Conservative party right now. This is unprecedented and it is unhealthy. The reason we need to vote the Conservatives out of power is to GET RID OF HARPER, not because all Conservatives are evil. Under another leader they may well come back and be the best government we’ve ever had — unlike the ‘omg, coalition, evil!’ chimps who regurgitate their force-fed Con propaganda, I don’t pretend to know the future — but what we can say with certainty is that under Stephen Harper Canadian democracy has suffered in absolutely unprecedented ways. He is a bad leader and he is bad for our country. To disagree is to be an apologist and a crony, because level-headed (‘true’) Conservatives want nothing to do with him.

        2. You dismiss out of hand incredibly serious (charge-worthy, jail-worthy, contempt-worthy) abuses and that says enough about your worldview. You are not rational and you have no capacity for objectivity or you would say you are a [fiscal/rational] conservative who can’t stand for Harper’s abuses any longer. There is no use discussing anything with the likes of you.

        omgIdiots

        April 8, 2011 at 5:32 pm

      • Let me spell this out for you chimps.

Any abuses and scandals perpetrated by Jean Chretien, Paul Martin, and Stephane Dion are NOT RELEVANT because they cannot be said to reflect on Michael Ignatieff and the liberal party going into this election.

All abuses and scandals perpetrated by the Harper government since 2006 are ABSOLUTELY RELEVANT because HE’S THE SAME GUY RUNNING AGAIN!

Could it possibly be made ANY clearer????

“Waaaaaah, ad scam! Waaaaaaaaah, some other thing the Liberals did 20 years ago!! No, don’t point out my Fuhrer’s hypocrisy! Don’t bring up his promises of fiscal restraint, senate reform, or anything else! Don’t mention Bev Oda, that’s nothing! Prorogation, pshh, who needs a House of Commons anyway when you’ve got a strong leader like HARPO!”

I can’t believe how f*cking stupid you people are.

  4. A “NDP plant” with what purpose in mind? Even if she were running for a rival party, she should hbe every right to attend a rival rally in a democratic society. Were she to interrupt the meeting somehow, I’d expect that to be a prime opportunity for Stevie to show he has some oratory skill, or at least some balls. Instead, Mr. Shifty’s shifters come to his rescue again. …and party-line towing nappers blame it on the media.

You can go back to sleep now.

    April 7, 2011 at 9:01 pm

    • Any one of any political stripe should be able to attend a political rally but usually they identify themselves as NDP, Lib, or whatever. However, this is the PM, (whether you like it or not) and his security is important. The majority(remember that word: democracy: the will of the majority) of people who attend rallies do NOT go to hear hecklers who try to suppress someone’s speech because they don’t agree with it. You should be allowed to have a say at the appropriate time and place but too many people feel their opinions are superior to everyone else’s. You cannot believe that this was not a plant or just someone looking to be clever. This is the kind of dumb stunt university kids pull: I know; I was one of them once.

  5. This is pitiful. We have already had people thrown out of Conservative rallies over their NDP bumper stickers, and we know for a fact Ms. Aslam was ejected over a facebook photo showing her with Michael Ignatieff who, you counter-conspiracy Conservatards may remember, IS NOT AFFILIATED WITH THE NDP. Unless there is evidence that she was doing something suspicious at this rally you have added NOTHING to the political discourse, Mr. Knight, except completely vacuous rubbish disguised as your side of the story. Dig up something with substance and stop wasting Canadians’ time.

    Max S

    April 7, 2011 at 9:05 pm

    • So she was thrown out of the rally for the wrong reason, then–her Ignatieff photo-op.

I guess that could happen to me, too. I keep getting canned emails from Ignatieff. I’ve never voted Liberal in my life, and never will. But there I am, a sitting duck for some “citizen journalist” like Leo Knight, if and when I’m tossed from a Con rally in the future. Liberal plant!

Good grief, anybody interested in politics gets onto email lists. There’s no smoking gun here, just smoke. Give it up, Mr. Knight.

WAKE UP, PEOPLE. Stephen Harper is not a legitimate conservative.

        hahaha

        April 8, 2011 at 4:26 pm

  6. The kindest thing that can be said about your duplicated email cabbage is that it’s inconclusive. However, the point of this note is to discuss the origins of the “goons” characterization. I believe I may have been the person who first used that term in a post on this particular topic, published on my own blog and on rabble.ca on April 6. That post did NOT refer to the Mounties as security goons because I simply could not believe the RCMP would be that unprofessional. When readers emailed me to take issue with my suggestion the goons were merely Conservative party operatives, based on reports they had read online, I argued with them and said in my responses that these must have been hirelings of the Harper Conservatives, not sworn police officers. I guess I stand corrected on that now that the facts are out, and readers can decide for themselves who is a “goon” and who isn’t. If anything, the initial coverage that misled me suggests the media you label as “pliant” are in fact doing whatever they can to get the Harper Conservatives elected as a majority, including disguising the true identity of the people giving the bum’s rush to citizens who wish to attend Mr. Harper’s supporters-only rallies. Mr. Harper’s exclusion of non-supporters from his rallies is obviously undemocratic, but hardly unexpected. His use of taxpayer-paid police officers to achieve that goal is a serious abuse of power.

  7. I see three pro-Conservative replies so far and not a single complete sentence among the lot of them — what a surprise!

Author Leo Knight gives us a hilarious conspiracy theory here but it’s missing a pretty crucial point: WHY WAS SHE EJECTED??? Bob Rae could have been at that rally, there would be no grounds to eject him unless he was stirring something up. Nobody with any relation to this story has suggested Ms. Aslam was doing ANYTHING the least bit suspicious or inappropriate or otherwise objectionable, so WHY was she thrown out of the rally? You have not clarified anything or added anything of substance to the discussion over this issue, just picked an email address off the internet and used it to completely make up a bunch of groundless nonsense. The fact that this is now on Bourque’s homepage is an insult to every Canadian with a positive IQ.

She’s on the recipient list FOR A SINGLE EMAIL sent by some NDP douchebag THREE FREAKING YEARS AGO and that makes her some kind of jihadi agent provocateur!? Get a grip, she had every right to be at that rally, just as you or I would, and they threw her out with NO grounds and NO basis except her facebook picture. That’s absolutely nuts, and so is anyone who doesn’t see a problem here.

This isn’t a police state, remember? Despite what Harper would have you believe, Canada remains a free country.

Her possible motive to lie? 5 minutes of fame….. politically savvy, watch her become a politician …..wants to embarass the PC by giving the Libs and NDP some ammo to use this week….
She may be telling the truth, but I have seem NOTHING to substantiate her claim… have you?

      • Holy crow you Contards are stupid.

First, she was ejected from the rally. There were witnesses.

Second, Harper and Dimitri Soudas have apologized. AFTER YEARS OF THEIR AWFUL GOVERNMENT ANY FOOL KNOWS THEY DON’T APOLOGIZE FOR *ANYTHING* UNLESS THEY’VE BEEN CAUGHT IN THE ABSOLUTE WRONG.

Now the media are reporting “The 19-year-old student who became the unwitting face of the victims of the Tory’s bubble campaign has made her peace with the Conservatives.

Awish Aslam, a sophomore at the University of Western Ontario, said she is satisfied with the apology from Conservative campaign spokesman Dimitri Soudas. But she still wants to know who told the RCMP to screen and act as bouncers.”

She MADE HER PEACE WITH THE CONSERVATIVES. Does that sound like a plant to you? Idiot, idiot, idiot, idiot, all you tards are reading from the same moronic Tea Party conspiracy theory script. Please don’t vote, you’re too dumb.

Please not the “91” in the address which when printed as “1991” and subtracted from “2011” equals 20. Hmmm, 20? That’s pretty close to 19 and if this innocent babe was born later in the year she could still be a mere 19 years old if “91” was the year of Awish Aslam’s birth, Yeah, she may have been young in 2008, still, that is roughly the level of maturity one expects from people that supports NDP policies.

I was a polisci major, and the one percent of them who begin their studies WITHOUT a bias end up getting one in the first 6 months.

2 years in polisci tells me she knows how it all works, and for some naive unfortunate wanting to learn about Canadian politics, she seems to know how to play the media spin game like a pro.

      • That’s the thing about leftists, they have an erroneous belief that their self serving ideology is “intelligence”. They brainwash themselves with this belief because ideology is all they have.

They want a society that is not based on merit or hard work, but one that’s based on their goose stepping ideology. It’s the only way to power for these characters because they are sorely lacking in merit and the only time they’ll work hard is when they’re destroying something or someone.

That’s the choice Canadians will soon be making.

        It’s Merit or Ideology.

There is a bulleted list a few paragraphs down: dozens and dozens of MAJOR and UNPRECEDENTED government scandals. Corruption, nepotism, deceit, and contempt at the highest levels of government to a degree never before witnessed in Canada, and all you can do is tell me about a nonexistent ideology.

Grow up. I would never stand for a prime minister OF ANY PARTY doing the things Harper has done. So what’s your excuse, other than being disgustingly, offensively, shamefully stupid and/or completely brainwashed? You don’t even know what your ideology is because you’re more suffused with it than the Tea Party is with the stench of Sarah Palin’s rear end.

Seriously, how do you feel about Bev Oda? Or the CRTC being run — just like the RCMP, our NATIONAL POLICE FORCE — by a Harper crony with NO EXPERIENCE!? I would not be pleased with a Liberal Prime Minister doing such a thing, but anything Harper does gets a pass from you partisan demagogue retards.

How do you feel about the prorogation of Parliament? Do you even care if Harper knowingly sent detainees to be tortured? Do you care about the fact that Harper touts his ‘economic record’ yet supports the exact deregulation that led to the US financial meltdown? Are you actually too stupid and gullible to understand that if Harper had come into power in 1995 Canada would be suffering every bit as much as the US is right now?? To anyone with half a brain that is a terrifying idea, but you and the rest of the idiot cronies will keep touting your fuhrer as the best thing since the invention of the wheel, despite the fact that he has nothing good on his track record and no good ideas about where to go from here.

And that must be why you know how to solve the problem of criminals being allowed to walk free and terrorize society, because they sure can’t be given a second chance at employment like poor Bruce Carson was by the Prime Minister. Since we have had decades of Liberal majority governments over the course of my life time I would have thought that you would have solved all our social problems. You talk about the government telling us where to spend our money. Guess what: after Harper spends THIRTY BILLION DOLLARS (the largest amount of money a Canadian government has EVER committed to ANYTHING in the history of our country) on fighter planes that can’t even perform search & rescue (which is what Canada actually needs from its airforce), you won’t have any money left to be told what to do with! 28. Since ARCH IDIOT ‘Blame Crash’ (username) has allegedly donated money to the Conservative campaign as a result of my posts on this page, let’s look at some of the policies and tendencies his generous contribution will help to support:

    – IN AND OUT SCHEME: four senior Conservatives (incl. two senators) charged with breaking spending limit laws in the 2006 campaign that brought the Tories to power. (Harper was elected on promises of transparency and accountability.)
    – DOCUMENT-ALTERING SCANDAL: Minister Bev Oda doctors a document, denies a legitimate group funding for no reason, lies about what happened multiple times before Parliament
    – (LACK OF) INTEGRITY SCANDAL: Christiane Ouimet, so-called integrity commissioner, received 228 whistleblowing complaints didn’t uphold a single one. She was paid $500,000 in severance to not talk about her role.
    – ILLEGAL USE OF GOVERNMENT LETTERHEAD: Immigration Minister Jason Kenney used ministerial letterhead to raise money for the Conservative Party
    – CONTEMPT OF PARLIAMENT: Harper Con Artists wouldn’t disclose basic information on the cost of crime bills and the F-35 purchase …. LOTS OF LYING spread over days and weeks and months on these issues
    – PROROGATION (TWICE!!!), including once to pointedly refuse to observe basic Parliamentary rights and obligations: by shuttering Parliament Harper was allowed to continue to withold information on the transfer and torture of Afghan detainees which could implicate Harper and/or his staffers in violation of the Geneva Conventions!!
    – THE HARPER GOVERNMENT: It’s not the “Government of Canada” any longer. Need I say more?
    – CRTC APPOINTMENT SCANDAL: Harper appointed Tom Pentefountas as vice-chairman of the CRTC. His qualifications? close friendship with Harper’s Director of Communications and ZERO EXPERIENCE IN TELECOM!!! Wow!
    – ILLEGAL INFORMATION RELEASE: Conservatives illegally released and circulated the medical & psychiatric records of whistleblower Sean Bruyea in an obvious attempt to discredit him. NO-ONE WAS PUNISHED EXCEPT FOR 3-DAY SUSPENSIONS *WITH PAY* (see http://www.thealgomanews.ca/News/Editorial/Veterans+Affairs+Minister+Blackburn+once+again+proves+inept.str?12931)
    – ongoing ACCESS TO INFORMATION scandal: Harper Conservatives illegaly edit, delay, and deny legitimate Access to Information requests
    – STAMPING OUT DISSENT: Conservatives attempt to muzzle the public service and the diplomatic corps
    – CENSUS SCANDAL: Despite outrage by many groups typically supportive of the Conservatives, Harper destroyed the mandatory long form census, denying Canadian groups and agencies all kinds of necessary information, in a move symptomatic of their ongoing suppression of research containing data countering Conservative ideology

    More:
    – shutting down of Peter Tinsley’s Afghan detainees’ probe
    – removing the head of the RCMP Complaints Commission
    – removing the head of the Nuclear Safety Commission
    – patronage and partisanship scandal at Rights & Democracy
    – disregarding a fixed-date election law
    – issuing a secret manual instructing Conservatives how to disrupt parliamentary committees

  32. GT is essentially right.

I am voting for Michael Ignatieff, not because I love the man but because this country needs an end to the reign of Stephen Harper (as as distinct entity from the Conservative Party). When the Conservatives lose an election, Harper will no longer lead the party, and hopefully someone with a bit of humanity and understanding will replace him, someone with the capacity for reaching across the aisle (as they say in the US, at least) to actually improve Canada. That is manifestly not Harper’s agenda, as he has no vision for Canada whatsoever except as a ‘night watchman state’ (See http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/politics/ottawa-notebook/harper-and-ignatieff-two-leaders-two-visions-of-canada/article1956860/).

BELIEVE YOU ME, IF WE EVER HAVE A LIBERAL PRIME MINISTER WHO DOES THE THINGS GT LISTED ABOVE, I WILL BE FIRST IN LINE TO VOTE FOR HIS OUSTER.

It is entirely possible to be a legitimate Canadian Conservative, or at least it was before Stephen Harper and the Reform gang hijacked the party and tellingly deleted PROGRESSIVE from its name. You can be a Conservative, and you can vote Conservative once he’s gone — but anyone who supports Stephen Harper in this election lacks the self-respect to demand a leader who respects the electorate. Harper does not, and you loony sheep who continue to stand up for him should be ashamed of yourselves.

Why can’t you move to the US, which is the model Harper is moving us toward anyway, and save Canada the trouble of putting up with him OR you any longer???

Could it be you have no idea what’s really going on in politics so you listen blindly to what Herr Harpo says about every issue and take it as the gospel truth? If you are a “legitimate” Conservative, explain why Brian Mulroney refused to endorse Harper. Explain why a bunch of his gang quit before the election. Explain why so many people who aren’t directly under his thrall have distanced themselves from him. Explain why he has behaved in a manner unlike any previous Canadian Prime Minister. Explain why he takes such a dangerously partisan approach to politics in a way that has never before been seen by this country.

I am sure security was present somewhere, but I never noticed anything, and was never asked for ID. People circulated freely in the corridors, spectators and participants alike. It was a very relaxed and low key atmostphere, in marked contrast to the kind of super-disciplined staging we are hearing about in the case of the Conservative meet-ups.

The facts are that they don’t engage in any of the underhanded stunts that the left uses regularly. It’s all boils down to a question of character and many on the left have none and are proud of it and the other leftists don’t have the cojones to stand up to them.

Former Indian and Northern Affairs Minister Robert Nault is working as a paid lobbyist for Nelson House First Nation in what some allege is an apparent violation of a federal code of conduct. Among the federal departments Nault is lobbying is the Indian and Northern Affairs department he headed until December 2003, according to a lobbying report Nault filed with the federal government. Nault registered as a lobbyist for Nelson House, now known as Nisichawayasihk Cree Nation, on July 18, 2005 — one year and seven months after leaving his cabinet post. Under the Conflict of Interest and Post-Employment Code for Public Office Holders, Nault is barred from working for any entity with which his department had “direct and significant official dealings” for two years after leaving office. 183. Expenses of chairman of the Royal Canadian Mint Emmanuel Triassi, who also approved David Dingwall’s expenses (Globe and Mail, October 4, 2005)
    184. Last week, Public Works was also silent on details of another case involving forensic accounting. Government accounts published on Thursday showed a department employee had embezzled $3.45 million from Public Works office in Koblenz, Germany. Even though the employee was convicted and jailed in Germany, Public Works will not name him or give any details of the crime (Ottawa Citizen, October 4, 2005)
    185. The federal government inadvertently revealed yesterday that it is conducting a large-scale forensic accounting probe into “possibly criminal matters” when it published details of a contract intended for a Quebec accounting firm. The notice awarding a $2-million contract for forensic accounting services was published on the government’s tendering website, MERX. It gave notice that Consulting and Audit Canada was planning to award the sole-source contract to Leclerc Juricomptable, a Quebec City firm specializing in forensic work and litigation support. The contract award notice said the work had to be sole-sourced to Leclerc because it is “not in the public interest to jeopardize the current investment in the investigation or to significantly increase the risk to a successful completion of the investigation into possibly criminal matters.” A spokesman for the Department of PublicWorks and Government Services said yesterday that the notice was published “prematurely” and would be withdrawn last night. He could not say, however, what is under investigation, but said the contract was not tied to another scandal that has kept Quebec forensic accountants busy over the past years. “It’s not related to sponsorship or Gomery, that I can tell you,” said spokesman Pierre Teotonio (Ottawa Citizen, October 4, 2005). It was subsequently revealed that the department involved was CIDA (CP Wire, October 4, 2005)

    196. Delays and ballooning costs mean a giant software project at National Defence will eclipse its original budget and won’t meet its goals until 2011 — if at all. An internal audit obtained by Canadian Press raises red flags about a new system designed to streamline computer tracking of military inventory and purchases. MASIS — or Materiel Acquisition Support Information System — started in 1997 as a $147-million undertaking. What began as a focused effort to cover a single equipment category in each of the navy, army and air force soon mushroomed. By 2003, Defence officials estimated MASIS would be in place by 2006 at a cost of $325 million, more than twice its forecast budget. A full introduction of the complex software has now been extended to 2011. The heavily censored May 2005 internal audit, released under the Access to Information Act, catalogues a litany of “revised planned milestones.” “The prime contract has been amended six times, each time increasing amounts for professional service fees,” it says. (CP, The Record, October 24, 2005)
    197. Hospitality and travel expenses of executives at CMHC (Journal de Montréal, October 24, 2005)

    • Wow, what an excellent list Daryl !

You could also add the lies that they’ve been manufacturing with their media cohorts as well.

It’s just the same old beat that keeps going on and on with these characters. Their past and present behavior is a precise predictor of how they’ll be in the future.

A vote for these scoundrels is a vote against Canada.

      Blame Crash

      April 8, 2011 at 2:49 pm

    • This is a funny list, considering none of it has anything to do with anyone who is being considered for our government.

Harper is our current prime minister, and stands nakedly guilty of the biggest abuses and scandals in the history of our country.

All you psychotic loons can do is whine about AdScam.

Guess what, idiots, the total amount of the Ad Scandal was less than FOUR MILLION DOLLARS. That’s a lot of money, and what happened to it was UNACCEPTABLE. Harper’s F-35 ‘plan’ has a hole in it of more than FIFTY MILLION DOLLARS PER PLANE!

You offensive morons complain about the government deciding what to do with your money, apparently not realizing THIS IS YOUR MONEY, not just the stuff that pays for childcare. Harper’s team says the plans will cost us $15 billion (that’s the idiotically low estimate nobody actually believe). The NON-PARTISAN parliamentary budget officer says he’s full of it, they will cost $29.3 billion.

      • Ok, so…The Lieberal scandals from “Ten Years Ago” are..Irrelevant. But. Mr. Carsons scandals, and make no mistake aside from the bankruptcy.. which unfortunately many people have to deal with in their lives, they are scandalous, but some also took place several years ago. Those are completely relevant…really? I would say yes they are, but then following the logic above…maybe they shouldn’t be. Or is it only because they were Lieberal scandals of olde that they are now irrelevant? Hmmm?

      • You are making a completely inappropriate comparison.

Carson’s fraud convictions aren’t really the story here (though sadly they are starting to take over). Carson is an issue because his hiring reflects poorly on Harper. I’m all for giving second chances, but this is a guy with FIVE FRAUD CONVICTIONS who was Harper’s longtime personal aide and quote “THE POINT MAN ON CANADA’S INVOLVEMENT IN AFGHANISTAN!” That’s pretty brutal, that someone who’s been found guilty of lying and cheating FIVE TIMES by our courts was privy to the most sensitive material in our entire country.

Let’s also keep in mind Carson was ‘vetted’ prior to his employment and Harper now says he has no idea about the man’s past. So was the screening TO BECOME PERSONAL ASSISTANT TO OUR PRIME MINISTER woefully inept, or does Harper have woefully bad judgment?? OR BOTH?

And THEN, of course, there is the matter of how all this came to light: Carson was accused of illegal influence-peddling AFTER leaving Harper’s employ. Which raises (admittedly mild) further questions about the PM’s judgment and his associations in general.

  39. with all due respect, the security for the PM (whatever party he/she is from) is much more stringent than the security for either the OLO or other party leaders.

You see, Harper is still PM. Whether you like it or not, he *is* the leader of Canada. If an attempt was made on his life, it would have profound implications on the country.

We do not know, nor will we ever know, if Harper has received threats or what these possible threats may be.

    • Last I checked you’re not allowed to murder the Prime Minister, the leader of the opposition, any sitting MP, any suspended MP, any member of the Canadian public, or even any non-citizen on Canadian soil!

You may have some semblance of a point that the PM’s security is a little beefier than others’ because he is a more prolific figure but that’s really not relevant to anything being discussed. All of the party leaders are campaigning with RCMP protection. All of them are holding rallies that are [supposed to be] free and open to all Canadians. The actions undertaken by staff at Harper’s events — namely to physically eject people out of crazy paranoia for no valid reason — are unacceptable and inappropriate.

  41. Could some of you Harper apologists explain why he is spending billions on jails as part of a ‘get tough on crime’ initiative when Canadian crime levels are steadily dropping?

Can you explain why this spending was justified with the excuse that ‘unreported crime is on the rise’? (Can you admit even a child would call bullshit on such a hollow lie? Probably not.)

Can you understand that stuffing people into jails has been PROVEN to INCREASE risk of reoffending? Can you acknowledge that there are better ways of handling non-violent criminals?

Why do you support the man who wants to take your tax money and spend it on fighter planes that kill people and jails that incarcerate people instead of anything positive — education, healthcare, quality of life, culture, ANYTHING except guns and prisons???

What rationale do you have for wanting to turn Canada into the United States??? AND FOR GOD’S SAKE WHY CAN’T YOU JUST MOVE THERE NOW SO WE DON’T HAVE TO PUT UP WITH YOU ANY LONGER???

HRDC was at least a Billion (yeah that is a B folks) dollars alone, Adscam was $200 million+, Sea King was a cost but we got nothing in return as I recall since they just cancelled it paying a break up fee, Gun “Registry” LOL..another $2 Billion (with a B), and that is just 4 of the..yikes almost 200!

A Billion here, a billion there…soon we are talking real money. And now we have American visitor Michael Layton and his new found policy inspiration muse “Taliban” Jack Ignatieff rolling out their platforms from the PET 70’s…spend, spend, spend, spend, spend, spend…… scary enough on it’s own. • EVERYONE PAY CLOSE ATTENTION, THIS IS HOW CONSERVATIVES DO MATH!!

      Cost of the Ad Scandal:

$2 million was awarded in contracts without a proper bidding process
$250 thousand added to one contract price for no additional work
$1.5 million awarded for work that was never don

      2 mill + 250 thou + 1.5 mill … that equals 3.75 million dollars. SORRY, I MEAN AT LEAST A BILLION, I’M A REDNECK CONSERVATIVE MORON!!

The total cost of the Commission to investigate AdScam was $14 million. That means in sum, it cost our country 18 million bucks. THAT’S A SHAMEFUL NUMBER and I’m the first to say it.

But it’s less than HALF the cost of ONE of the fighter planes Harpo is buying. Liberal corruption and Conservative corruption are equally damaging. We had Liberal corruption so they got the boot. Now we have Conservative corruption but you chimps feel like it’s ‘your guy’ in power so you don’t care! THAT’S CALLED HYPOCRISY. Welcome to assholeland, population you.

      hahaha

      April 8, 2011 at 4:34 pm

      • Darn, I only got a “chimp” and an “assholeland”, kinda disappointing.

Have to agree with you though re the corruption, doesn’t matter who is the culprit, it is tax dollars wasted and our kids futures being mortgaged.

I don’t agree however from some of the posters the assertions that Liberal past transgressions are somehow irrelevant because they are a certain number of years in the past…. unless of course they are willing to carry that “irrelevance” over to others of a non-Liberal persuasion.

But you don’t need to go that far into the past to see what Uncle Dalty has done in Ontario. e-health anyone? Imagine what that billion dollars could have done for front line health care. How many MRI’s, dialysis machines, operating theatres, nurses, doctors etc could that money have paid for.

        Gern

        April 8, 2011 at 4:55 pm

      • The Ad Scam is “irrelevant” only because and to the extent that it does not concern MPs who may potentially become our leaders (again). If Harper was not running in this election but had decided to retire, and some sort of “Compassionate Conservative” replaced him, I wouldn’t really care who wins.

This is not — to me or most of the Liberals — about “putting Ignatieff in power” it is purely about getting rid of Harper. I cannot fathom why it is so difficult for Conservatives to understand or admit that he is not healthy for Canada. He has created divisions where none existed before; he wades into rural populations and rants about “Liberal Toronto elites” (his house majority John Baird is a gay Toronto aristocrat, but that apparently doesn’t matter????); he says Liberals are power-hungry when he has displayed more naked lust for power and centralization of decision-making in the Prime Minister’s Office than Canada has ever seen.

If you understand the value of a billion dollars put toward healthcare or education, how on earth can you support the “planes & prisons” platform of the Conservatives???

Harper’s corruption will be “irrelevant” when he is no longer the leader of the party, because it will not be an accurate reflection of the Conservative Party once he is gone. That is why the AdScam and all the other little minutiae are “irrelevant” — if our choice were between Harper and bringing back a previous Liberal Prime Minister, that would change things. But as it stands, everything Harper has done counts against him, and only a demagogue would hold Ignatieff responsible for the abuses of predecessors who had nothing personally to do with him.

Why is he building extra mega jails when crime is declining?

Seriously, you are whining about SPENDING MONEY and you don’t have any problem with the fact that (1) Harper wants to buy a bunch of planes that cost a hundred million dollars each! or (2) he’s actually lying about the cost and it will be much more than that as costs overrun, development issues have to be sorted out, and other countries pull out due to the rising costs!?

      FROM THE GAZETTE:
An American military expert says the Tory government’s planned purchase of 65 F-35 fighter jets comes with an unrealistically low price tag for a plane that he says will not meet the country’s needs.

“You’re getting an underperforming airplane for a huge amount of money,” said Winslow T. Wheeler, director of the Straus Military Reform Project of the Centre for Defense Information in Washington D.C.

Winslow, who was in Ottawa Tuesday, at the invitation of the Rideau Institute and Physicians for Global Survival, said the estimated price of $75 million per plane is too low.

“Nobody on this Earth is going to be buying F-35’s in flyable condition at $75 million a copy. That’s not in the cards,” he said.

    • It was called a global economic crisis, which by all counts Canada weathered relatively well. Does all the credit go to the government? Absolutely not, I think the quality of our banking system was the biggest factor.

As for the planes, fact is the military and our men and women serving do need new equipment, are the F-35’s the BATEA (Best Available Technology Economically Achievable)? I don’t know that either, there seems to be views on both sides of that and I think it needs to be re-examined in that light. And my hope is that this is what will happen. But the bottom line is the servicemen and women in the forces need to have the best we can afford. Key words..best and afford.

I have a hard time believing that everyone who’s planning to vote Conservative is okay with the idea of Canada as a “night watchman state.” It would be one thing if Harper was saving us money, but even if you ignore all the stimulus-related bills he spends a lot of money instead of saving it.

If he was a genuine fiscal conservative we wouldn’t be buying these planes. What emergency do we need them for? They can’t perform search & rescue; they don’t fit Canada’s needs, but the Conservatives are plunging ahead with them. Why can’t we wait a couple of years and buy something from a different manufacturer or of a different manufacturing generation?

And why does he insist on building jails? He has some kind of obsession with incarceration, and that’s not what I want in a Canadian Prime Minister. How about you?

It is entirely possible to be a legitimate Canadian Conservative, or at least it was before Stephen Harper and the Reform gang hijacked the party and tellingly deleted PROGRESSIVE from its name. You can be a Conservative, and you can vote Conservative once he’s gone — but anyone who supports Stephen Harper in this election lacks the self-respect to demand a leader who respects the electorate. Harper does not, and you loony sheep who continue to stand up for him should be ashamed of yourselves.

  45. TL;DR = Carson now tied to a second sex worker, and this one has multiple convictions, just like Carson! Fuhrer Harper sure knows how to pick ’em!!

    —————————-

(G&M) A former adviser to the Prime Minister, now under scrutiny by the RCMP, bought a downtown Ottawa condominium with a former prostitute who was convicted of numerous offences in the United States, including money laundering, public records show.

Bruce Carson began his relationship with Barbara Lynn Khan in 2006, around the time he began advising Stephen Harper in his capacity as Prime Minister, according to a source who knows Ms. Khan.

Mr. Carson was a senior adviser to Mr. Harper, working on sensitive issues ranging from Afghanistan to the federal budget to climate change.

But in recent weeks questions have multiplied about how a man with five criminal convictions, who once went bankrupt and suffered years of debt problems, could have been welcomed into the centre of government power.

Now, after Mr. Harper called in the RCMP to investigate allegations of improper lobbying by Mr. Carson, The Globe has learned that he was in a relationship with a former U.S. felon while serving in the Prime Minister’s Office.

It was Mr. Carson’s relationship with another sex worker that first landed him under the glare of the RCMP. More than two weeks ago, the PMO contacted the Mounties after they discovered the Aboriginal Peoples Television Network was investigating alleged lobbying Mr. Carson performed on behalf of a company with ties to Michelle McPherson, a former prostitute who also owns a house with the 66-year-old policy adviser.

It’s not clear whether officials were made aware of Mr. Carson’s relationship with Ms. Khan when he was approved to work in Mr. Harper’s office in 2006, or any time during his tenure.

    Guess what, THERE'S MORE!

    April 8, 2011 at 5:53 pm

    • Again, the double standard. Is Carson shady? Sure looks like it, however, like it or not, the same kinds of associations (and this does not make it right, and is not an excuse for Harper/Carson) can be made in the case of past Liberal transgressions. This is an inconvenient truth… no matter who gets in, there will be scandals. Does that make it ok, no, because that drags everyone down to a lower common denominator.

For any who are old enough, I am what you would call a Bill Davis Conservative, a Pink Tory, generally “progressive” in my view. Socially a bit to the left, fiscally a bit to the right. Unfortunately, for most of us we are now in a political dead zone. The Reformers (Mr. Harper being one of them) have for the most part excised/hijacked the progressive out of Conservative. However, Iggy has now shifted so far left to try to cut off Taliban Jack that in reality there is no one in the middle anymore.

Where are the McKenna, Manley, Martin (and even JC to an extent) Liberals now? They are probably sitting with me and my ilk, the old progressive cons…wishing for a “Mulligan” (to cop a golf phrase) and taking a do-over with 5 new leaders, and a more moderate approach on all sides. No one really represents us well enough to deserve our vote.

    • @ Let’s be Nice

I think on the planes we are generally in agreement, I think it needs some second thought. I know Mr. Page and I think he deserves more credit for his work.

As for “And why does he insist on building jails? He has some kind of obsession with incarceration, and that’s not what I want in a Canadian Prime Minister. How about you?”

I want a Canadian Prime Minister who is going to stand up for victims and their rights, I want a Prime Minister and country that does not ascribe to honour killings/genital mutilation being too harshly described when the term “barbaric” is used and that does not see things like “there are sexual assaults and then there are sexual assaults”. Believe it or not, “society” cannot be blamed for failing criminals and there comes a point where personal responsibility for ones actions has to be taken. And the punishment has to be more than a slap on the wrist and a tut-tut.

So, building more jails, if needed. Reforming the criminal justice system, definitely.

But then I am (as described by some on this thread)apparently a “loony, laughable idiot, asshole, who lacks self-respect”..so I guess my opinion is irrelevant.

      • Adding minimum mandatory sentences is not “reforming the criminal justice system” it’s precisely the opposite.

You bring up a Liberal’s offhand remarks about degrees of sexual assaults. Do you believe that groping someone is equivalent to raping them? Probably not. And yet you have no problem condemning someone else whose actual words you’ve probably never heard or read for saying the same thing. Now regardless of how you feel about that issue specifically, you’ve somehow twisted that into meaning the liberals are soft on crime. Guess what, that doesn’t make any sense.

You say you want a safe society. Why, then, do you support the building of more jails and increasingly harsh sentences when it has been demonstrated by people who study these things for a living and actually have INFORMED OPINIONS that the environment of jail actually encourages recidivism, if only through exposure? You have essentially contradicted yourself just to support Stephen Harper. His approach doesn’t make any sense, so how can you support it?

        April 8, 2011 at 8:21 pm

      • To paraphrase Guess What,

Putting people in jail causes more crime than it prevents!

How’s that for you jail-building Harpo-lovers? Get some rationale or admit your vote is purely partisan bullshit. There’s no excuse for Harper’s actions or his agenda. Both are notably unCanadian.

        hahahah

        April 8, 2011 at 8:41 pm

      • @ Guess what

I have said that no one of the 5 represents me enough to deserve my vote, so I am not sure where your conclusion was drawn that I support Harper. I said build jails, “if needed” (key words here)…not build more jails (full stop).

Did I say that minimum mandatory sentencing was what I supported with respect to reform of the criminal justice system? No. The 3 strikes seems to have been an un-mitigated disaster in the US, although that is not a particularly good analogy. What I said was that I wanted a PM that would stand up for victims and their rights.

Right now I think that the system (not any particular party.. but the system itself) is soft on crime in certain areas, I also think that the system does not properly account for victims rights. And I don’t think any of the platforms are particularly valuable in those areas, or at least lack specifics.

So, how many degrees of separation are permissible between the actions/words of persons associated with a leader and said leader, in order to keep the brush from following one to the other? Is it like the 6 degrees of Kevin Bacon game…or less? And whatever that degree of separation is that is permissible, has to apply to all leaders equally. And that is usually where the rules start to fall apart and opinion becomes subjective.

Where are the lines drawn between non-elected advisors, elected MP’s and nominated candidates? Or local riding associations or party presidents or hired lobbyists? I don’t know, but as long as the application of the litmus test is consistent then at least I can buy into the concept that there is a degree of fairness in any judgement being passed on any of them.

  47. The leaders are? Harper, Iggy, Layton, and Duceppe. Well I can’t vote for one, not being in Quebec. A farce all on it’s own. One isn’t Canadian, wants to tax me to death for other peoples problems. And the third is more left than the American. That leaves me with Mr. Harper. He isn’t perfect, nobody is. I believe in the core value that the harder you work the further ahead you should be. Not work really hard and spread it around to people who don’t work as hard as me. Selfish? Well I have a family to support, MY FAMILY. I had my kids so I could raise them and decide what they were entitled to. Not stand in line for the hand out from the all knowing, all seeing Government. In my 41 years I have only known scandal and waste from all elected governments. So I go back to what I believe. I am further right than left, that means Harper. To take that further I have met my MP many times and he is definately worth my vote. Mike Lake is a great guy and I believe works in my best interest. Bash away.

Heres a little something for my friends who are voting against the Conservatives because of the leader. Be careful what you wish for because you just might get it. Enjoy.

LIBERAL VS. CONSERVATIVE POINT OF VIEW.
A young woman was about to finish her first year of university. Like so many others her age, she considered herself to be very Liberal, and among other liberal ideals, was very much in favour of higher taxes to support more government programmes, in other words a “redistribution of wealth”.

She was deeply ashamed that her parents were staunch Conservatives, a feeling she openly expressed. Based on the lectures that she had participated in, and the occasional chat with a professor, she felt that her parents had for years harboured an evil, selfish desire to
keep what they thought should be theirs.

One day she was challenging her mother on her opposition to higher taxes on the rich and the need for more government programmes. The self-professed objectivity proclaimed by her professors had to be the truth and she indicated so to her mother.

Her mother responded by asking how she was doing in school.

Taken aback, she answered rather haughtily that she had a 94% average, and let her know that it was tough to maintain, insisting that she was taking a very difficult course load and was constantly studying, which
left her no time to go out and party like other people she knew. She didn’t even have time for a boyfriend, and didn’t really have many university friends, because she spent all her time studying.

Her mother listened and then asked, ‘How is your friend Audrey doing?’

She replied, ‘Audrey is barely getting by. All she takes are easy classes, she never studies, and she barely has a 60% average. She is popular on campus and university for her is a big blast. She’s always invited to all the parties and lots of times she doesn’t even show up for classes because she’s too hung over.’

Her wise mother asked her daughter, ‘Why don’t you go to the Dean’s office and ask him to deduct 17% off your average and give it to your friend who only has a 60%. That way you will both have a 77% average, and certainly that would be a fair and equal distribution of marks.’

The daughter, visibly shocked by her mother’s suggestion, angrily fired back, ‘That’s a crazy idea, how would that be fair!? I’ve worked really hard for my grades! I’ve invested a lot of time, and a lot of hard work! Audrey has done next to nothing toward her degree. She played while I worked my tail off!’

The mother slowly smiled, winked and said gently, ‘Welcome to The Conservative Party..’

    Conservative? Yup!

    • Maybe you should ask Mr. Lake how he feels about having to hew to Harper’s personal agenda in a way no other group of elected MPs have ever had to do in the history of our country. Sadly, Harper brooks no dissent, so you won’t get the likely truth, which is that Mr. Lake truly wants what’s best for this country and disapproves of a lot of what Harper has done.

You say Ignatieff “isn’t a Canadian.” (You are wrong.)

You say he wants to tax you “to death.” (You are wrong.)

And you say the latter as if that means Ignatieff WANTS to raise taxes. Nobody WANTS to raise taxes, but sometimes it has to happen to afford what the government spends. DO YOU THINK HARPER GETS HIS FUNDING FOR PLANES AND PRISONS OUT OF HIS OWN BANK ACCOUNT??? THAT’S YOUR TAX MONEY! And with Harpo making the biggest purchases in Canadian history, you can damn well bet your taxes are going to rise — because of Harper’s spending.

Yet somehow Ignatieff is the evil taxing overlord. You don’t even have an opinion, just the hollow propaganda that’s been beaten through your skull by endless, pitiful, discourse-lowering ad hominem attack ads that Harper (without precedent) began to unleash before the election season began, and despite finding himself in the lead in the polls! No other prime minister has ever been characterized by such fear, fear-mongering, unilateralism, or need for personal centralized control. But keep believing in your fairytales about the “big bad commies” — whatever helps you sleep at night! (Unfortunately every Canadian with a brain knows you’re laughably full of bullshit.)

  48. HERE’S WHY I WANT CANADA TO BUY MORE PLANES AFTER I GET DONE BUILDING JAILS! HERP HERP!

“Nobody on this Earth is going to be buying F-35′s in flyable condition at $75 million a copy. That’s not in the cards,” he said.

    • Damn right! Those idiots at the Pentagon don’t know a thing about the price of THEIR planes. Obviously my personal (outdated) estimates are correct, just ask my 500 minions on this webpage!

And who is this Wheeler? DIRECTORY OF A MILITARY REFORM PROJECT???? sounds like a COMMIE to me!!! “American military experts” obviously don’t know half as much about American military aircraft as I do!!

  49. Sigh, of course the right is wrong. The point of my reply wasn’t who is good or bad personally. It was that Mr. Harper is the leader of the party that fits with my ideals. Mr. Lake is my representative and that means Mr. Harper for me. I’m assumming that the liberals on this chat are all from Ontario. Talk about left wing brain washing. Out west, where all of your equalization payments come from we are little more moderate, thank goodness. Liberal tax platform, tax the oil sands………..not the hydro (east) or nuclear (east). Just the big bad oilsands. Does that affect me? Uh, yup. Does it affect you? Uh, yup. The oil company passes said taxes down the line right to your gas pump. You people remember the National Energy Program? How did that work out? In any event, I am not getting into name calling or the juvenille stuff that a lot of people are on here. I hope that there is a majority government so that the country can move forward. Oh and kill the damn registry!!!!! 1 vote Conservatives from Alberta.

    Conservative? Yup!

    • Thank you, my minion. Good work. Don’t ask questions, just do as you are told.

I’ll have a new Conservative.ca mailing for you by midnight. (Hint: it involves Ignatieff actually being a King of Monaco! That damn guy is just visiting Canada the same way he just visited Harvard University, Oxford University, and all those other world-renowned institutions the left-wing elite intelligentsia love to brag about endlessly.) Why isn’t there a Conservative University where I can breed more pliant, gullible sheep like the ones above? We’ve got Fox News Nor—–sorry, I mean we just got Sun TV News set up, why not a university!

      • Ha ha, this one made me laugh. Good one. Oh wait, you’re serious? Ha ha. Even better. As for the rest, you don’t know me or what I think. Thank goodness. We’ll keep sending the cheques and you keep up the talking. Deal? Gotta get back to work now, we are paying for the country after all.

        Conservative? Yup!

  51. WOW! Never before seen so many broken-hearted Liberals! Cheer up, you still have pop band Arcade Fire on your side, over the environment, to fight “global warming”!

Funny thing, though. Seems both the LPoC and the NDP have “forgotten” all about that ‘crisis’, since it didn’t catch fire with Canadians, either.

Well! Cheer up, Liberals! After this election disaster you will at least be able to get rid of Michael Ignatieff. Doesn’t look like your prospects for finding another leader show any stars on the horizon.

What you might want to do, especially if the prospect of another two decades with Harper as Prime Minister of Canada is unappealing to you, is try to define what a “Liberal” really is. You don’t seem to have advanced the theory, at all, since the 19th Century.

Except, of course, the “Promise the Voter Anything” Liberal Party plank, which we all now know you’re never going to fulfil, anyway. You’ll keep it, though, won’t you? Voters don’t remember, do they?

Well, I’m sorry the prospect of a Harper majority government makes you crazier than usual. Please bear in mind that you are not encouraging voters to vote Liberal. All this petty bitterness only turns voters even farther away from the LPoC.

At the rate your ship is sinking, I’m afraid you may have to wait for the 22nd Century before a LPoC leader can be found with any concept of how to run a country. Nice to hear from you! So sorry you hate Harper!

Get used to him as Prime Minister, though! Rather than barking at the moon with Opposition like this, you’d be better off asking Stephen Harper when he will retire, so you can have “your” government back.

  54. I was wondering if you ever thought of changing
the layout of your website? Its very well written; I love what youve got to say.
But maybe you could a little more in the way of content so people could connect with it better.

Youve got an awful lot of text for only having 1 or 2 images.
Maybe you could space it out better?
